Type any topic, such as "Solar system" or "Spanish food words", and choose how many words and how hard. Or switch to "Type my own words" and enter one word and clue per line.

Get your grid
The words are fitted into a numbered crossword grid with Across and Down clues. Press New layout to shuffle the grid until you like it.

Solve it on screen and press Check to see which letters are right, or print the blank puzzle and a separate answer key for a class, party or game night.

Is this crossword maker free?
Yes. It is free to use: make, play and print as many crosswords as you like. AI topic puzzles are paced on very heavy use, like every tool on AllAILab; typing your own words never waits.
How does the AI crossword generator work?
When you enter a topic, our AI writes answer words and short clues about it at the difficulty you picked. Then your browser fits the words into a crossword grid, numbers it and lists the Across and Down clues.
Can I use my own words and clues?
Yes. Choose "Type my own words" and write one word and clue per line, like "Apple - Keeps the doctor away". You can also press Edit words on an AI puzzle to change any word or clue.
How do I print the crossword and the answer key?
Press Print puzzle for a blank grid with numbered clues, and Print answer key for a filled-in copy. In the print window you can also choose Save as PDF.
Why did a word not fit?
Every word has to cross another word, and some words share no letters with the rest. The page tells you which words did not fit; press New layout to try another arrangement, or swap that word for one with common letters.
How many words can a puzzle have?
AI puzzles have 8 to 20 words. Your own list can have up to 30 words, each 2 to 20 letters long. Spaces and punctuation are removed from answers, so "ice cream" becomes ICECREAM.
Are the AI clues always correct?
They are usually good, but AI can make mistakes. Read the answer key before you hand the puzzle out, and use Edit words to fix any clue.
